چکیده

MAIN OBJECTIVESHepatitis B is a major public health problem and about 2 billion people globally, have been infected with this problem. Present study was carried out among students of University ofSargodha, Pakistan to determine the prevalence of Hepatitis B. Blood samples of 1193 students were screened for hepatitis B through ELISA. Overall 3.18% student were found HBVpositive with higher prevalence among males than females . The most infected age group was from 18-20 years while student from intermediate sections were highly infected ascompare to Graduate and Masters Students. The students from rural areas have higher prevalence than ones living in urban areas. Among females, 70%, infected students werehaving ear-nose piercing in contrast to 30% with out that. The current study revealed that there is a need to modify the strategies in a direction to target those high risk groups andcontributing factor which have been identified during current studies i.e. rural population, young males, females going for ear nose piercing and cultural/rural barbers. Hepatitis B virus (HBV)causes Hepatitis B. It is classified within the family Hepadnavirus (Ganem and Schneider, 2001). It causes acute and chronic Hepatitis that result in cirrhosis and hepatocellularcarcinoma (Birrer et al., 2003).Worldwide approximately 2 billion people are infected with Hepatitis B virus and it is also recognized as one of the public health challenges (WHO,1996). The disease is wide spread with variation in endemicity from Asia to Africa and from Europe to America and Australia. In Pakistan its prevalence is estimated moderate tohigh in four provinces and the likely modes of transmission are drug abuse, use of contaminated needles, unsafe blood and blood products transfusion (Ali et al., 2009). Thereported prevalence is higher in males than females (Akhtar et al., (2008) Essa et al., 2007). The ideal public health approach for diseases prevention and control is to use routinepopulation based surveillance data to:1) Monitor the magnitude of diseases 2) Identify high risk subgroups 3) Guide national/provincial strategic plans for prevention and controlLarge scale cross-sectional surveys can provide good prevalence information and categorize risk factors and risk groups. Next Generation Sequencing-Based Investigation of Potential Patient-to-Patient Hepatitis C Virus Transmission during Hemodialytic Treatment

We investigated potential patient-to-patient transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in two hemodialysis centers in Beijing, China. Approximately 8.25% (32/388) hemodialysis patients were HCV antibody positive, and 4.90% (19/388) were HCV RNA-positive, which consisted of 2a genotype (1/19) and 1b genotypes (18/19). Using next generation sequencing (NGS) approach, MiSeq platform, we sequenced HC...

Anti-Borrelia burgdorferi antibody profile in post-Lyme disease syndrome.

Patients with post-Lyme disease syndrome (PLDS) report persistent symptoms of pain, fatigue, and/or concentration and memory disturbances despite antibiotic treatment for Lyme borreliosis. The etiopathogenesis of these symptoms remains unknown and no effective therapies have been identified. We sought to examine the antiborrelia antibody profile in affected patients with the aim of finding clue...

P2Y12 ADP receptor-dependent tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins of 27 and 31 kDa in thrombin-stimulated human platelets.

In thrombin-stimulated human platelets several proteins undergo rapid and transient changes in tyrosine phosphorylation. We demonstrate that a set of proteins of 27, 29, 31, 34, and 39 kDa is affected by released ADP and P2Y12 receptor signaling during platelet activation. AR-C69931MX, an antagonist of the Gi(2)-coupled P2Y12 ADP receptor, inhibits initial tyrosine phosphorylation of p27 and p3...

Proteins P24 and P41 function in the regulation of terminal-organelle development and gliding motility in Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a major cause of bronchitis and atypical pneumonia in humans. This cell wall-less bacterium has a complex terminal organelle that functions in cytadherence and gliding motility. The gliding mechanism is unknown but is coordinated with terminal-organelle development during cell division. Disruption of M. pneumoniae open reading frame MPN311 results in loss of protein P41...

Monitoring of specific antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus structural proteins: clinical significance.

Levels of antibodies to six major structural proteins of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (gp120, gp41, p66, p31, p24, and p17) were assessed in serial samples from 22 persons with severe hemophilia (16 asymptomatic and 6 who developed acquired immunodeficiency syndrome [AIDS] or AIDS-related complex) with an automated dot blot assay using purified recombinant antigens. High and sustained le...

p28, a novel ERGIC/cis Golgi protein, required for Golgi ribbon formation.

The mammalian Golgi apparatus consists of individual cisternae that are stacked in a polarized manner to form the compact zones of the Golgi. Several stacks are linked to form a ribbon via dynamic lateral bridges. The determinants required for maintaining the characteristic Golgi structure are incompletely understood. Here, we have characterized p28, a new gamma-subfamily member of p24 membrane...
